To give you a description of what an age gap relationship is, first one must understand age gap relationships have been around forever. They just weren't talked about. We have come along way with the help of media coverage as a result of book and movie productions. But does than mean society in general is knowledgeable about the subject? The answer is obviously no.
There is usually a five year age difference between the couple, to be considered an age gap relationship. That in itself is not uncommon until you get into a ten year and over age difference. Here is where society begins to question and place judgement based on preconceived ideas of what a normal and abnormal relationship is supposed to be. To give you an example, an older man with a younger woman, is generally more acceptable than the opposite type, which again points to what is acceptable and what is not by the general populous. Yet I can say from personal experience, it is more common than most people realize. I am sure some of you know someone personally who is with a much younger or older partner. Or perhaps you've heard about someone famous, read a book or saw a movie. And you have all probably wondered some of the same things but were too afraid to ask. And just maybe you were guilty of judging those involved as well. In the mean time, this type of relationship has continued to thrive without any of us interfering. And as the subject is discussed more, we all learn, even those involved. So join me in learning about this topic on a weekly basis where I will be covering such areas as how it effects children, what issues do couples face, the pro's and con's, do they really work, is it needing a mother or father figure, famous age gap couples, personal stories, how families and friends react, and so much more.
