Escape from the Jungle (Part Two)relief when the horn starts blaring as we reach the town; the chaos of city traffic, market stalls, and pedestrians insist that the driver slows. We get off at the terminus, and again we find ourselves in the midst of a hoard of young lads. "You want taxi?... Nairobi? Kakamega?... I get you bus ticket...Matatu, matatu?...Where you going?" "Kisumu," I reply repeatedly. "This is Kisumu," they respond. "Yes. I've just got here. I want to stay in Kisumu." They all look shocked. But why wouldn't someone want to spend a few days on the shores of Lake Victoria? And, after four hours of walks, bicycles, and matatus, the last thing I want is a ten-hour bus trip to Nairobi.
