The Mark of CainHow often does recieving a writing award in the fifth grade qualify one for a writing career later in life? Only one time known and it happened to E. D. Johnson. This native of Trenton, New Jersey is the author of the new novel, The Mark of Cain. Don't think for a minute that Johnson is new to the literary game, he has the war wounds to prove it. In 1987, his first book was published and it sold about 7,000 copies which in his words, "left a foul taste in his mouth". "I did not have or follow the best advice on how to be successful in the industry. I was very discouraged by the entire episode and took a lot of time away from writing." In E.D. Johnson's biography, he rightfully boasts of his early inspiration, including a writing award received in the 5th grade. His love for reading primed his imagination as an adult. Once, when he had written a short story, Johnson ended up meeting with an agent who suggested that he further develope it into a novel. "At that time, I was a Police Officer for the city of East Orange, New Jersey. I wrote about what I saw and knew to happen in an urban setting. This was the inspiration for The Grief Merchant. I`m currently a Federal Police Officer who enjoys bowling, and Bid Whist (can you say "A Boston!!!") " Now, without further a-do, E.D. Johnson is back. In this author's opinion..Johnson is TOUGH! The Mark of Cain is a black soap opera with all of the elements needed to possibly bring it him to the forefront of fiction. The main character in The Mark of Cain is Marshall Garnette. An R&B superstar is looking over his life, wondering if he made the right decisions, wondering if the price of fame was worth the cost. He has a wife, Collette who is how most would imagine the spouse of a top entertainer, spoiled and very sexy. Ressie is Colette's best friend who is the level headed of the two and can see the "road out ahead signs" better than her manipulative friend. Malik, a stranger to the trio causes each of them to realise the truth and to deal with life which happens to be their worse nightmare. Sounds interesting so far?
