If you're a sister of any race currently sitting on your life's dream or smothering your unique talents and abilities then, Anita Bunkley's recent book is the inspirational break you've been waiting for.
Steppin' Out With Attitude is not just the title of her book but a way of crystallizing goals and successfully placing one's self in the spotlight. Bunkley vends strong ideas of confidence in one's abilities and self, attitude adjustments, utilizing opportunities for networking as well as other sisters for mentoring and much more. Steppin' Out is written with the vivacity of achievement that sets the pace of the entire book which can't be helped but to rub onto the reader. As a flourishing author of African American women's fiction, she tells of her experience promoting her self-published first novel that larger publishing houses deemed as unmarketable due to the fact that it was based on a Black woman romanticized by the song, The Yellow Rose of Texas. Anita Bunkley recalls the moment her confidence was shaken and replaced by a fear of failure in her ability to sell herself and the 1,000 copies of Emily, The Yellow Rose that the delivery men had dumped in the center of her living room. Steppin' Out With Attitude includes the triumphs and learning experiences (otherwise known as errors) of other sisters of whom she had only read of in magazines such as Ebony. Bunkley decided to invite them to share their stories in the book which are worth saluting. One that stands out the most is of an eighth grade drop out and single mom whose mother encourages her to read the newspaper daily and to write letters to the editor. Eventually, she returns to obtain her GED, then on to pursue a degree in journalism where she makes a bold decision to "do what she has to do," which demonstrates just how hungry she was for education. Against her professor's wishes the young lady even carried her baby to class with her at Temple University. Anita Bunkley includes in her book valuable worksheets of questions designed to help today's woman assess herself and the path she is walking for her success. A plethora of "action steps" are listed in various parts of the book to help sisters create the edge needed in getting noticed and staying balanced. Steppin' Out With Attitude consists of 299 pages published by Harper Perennial and is worth the $12.80 price hundreds of times over. Go To Page: 1 2
