While the Gumbo Kids Company is a successful small business, making the transition from idea to product was a lesson in itself for Morgan-Simmons. "Naivety was a great thing for us," said Morgan-Simmons. "I should have had a stronger business and financial plan, but I just had a passion and I jumped in feet first."
As a stay-at-home mother, jumping into any business endeavor can be a bit scary, but Morgan-Simmons encourages all mothers to take the plunge if starting a business is something they would like to do. "I would tell moms that it is absolutely achievable even when it looks bleak. You have to prioritize, find a balance and find out what's important."
