Suzanne Brooks is a truly extraordinary American woman. While I have not met her physically, we have managed to develop a relationship via cyberspace. Who says that African Americans are not benefiting from the cyber world? In her life, Suzanne has worked to eradicate racism, classism and sexism in her community, nationally and globally. She is also an accomplished poet and author. An ardent defender of human rights and warrior for justice, Suzanne is really one of America's unsung heroes.
Years ago, Ms. Brooks had to write an autobiography. She still remembers the metaphor which came to her mind: "Because my parents could not afford a crib, I began life sleeping in a dresser drawer; but since that time all my energy has gone into expanding my world and my horizons." Twenty years since, that old assessment remains valid for Ms. Brooks.Suzanneuzanne Brooks is a multi-lingual administrator, teacher, organizer and specialist in civil rights, women's issues, cross-cultural communication, community economic development, hearing impairment, creative writing, and English as a second language. A former Philadelphia, PA police officer, she has administered university affirmative action and science educational equity programs and a university multi-cultural center. She owns Creative Concepts/Systems, a business consulting and licensed private investigation firms, which also offers manuscript editing and desktop publishing. Brooks earned a B.A in Education and ELaSalle(LaSalle College, Philadelphia); M.A in English/Creative Writing (Washington State University, Pullman); has completed all but a dissertation for a doctorate in adult education at Penn State University; and is now in a 2nd doctoral program, Educational Leadership and Change, at the Fielding Institute. She has also stuCheyney Cheyney State and Temple University in/near Philadelphia; University of Nevada Reno; and completed Tax Preparer training. She is Bilingual in Spanish and has also studied French, Latin and American Sign Language. Brooks has also been active in a variety of university and community service organizations, including National Institute for Women of Color, Center for Women's Policy Studies, Nevada Women's Fund, Negro Business and Professional Women (Reno), Penn State University Strategic Study on Status of Women, University of Nevada Reno Committee on International Student Concerns, Washington State University Futures for Women in Science CoLaSallee, LaSalle University Women on CampusCheyneym, Cheyney State University American Friends Service College Committee, American Civil Liberties Union, Pullman (WA) Civic Arts Committee, Girls-Incorporated, Guardian Civic League (Black Police Officers), Fraternal Order oWashoece, Washoe County (Nevada) Personnel Committee, Reno Women's CoSoroptimistoroptimist International and Communications Workers of America. She has traveled widely throughout the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. On the international front, Brooks has visited Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Kenya, Libya, Mexico, New Zealand, United Kingdom (England) and Venezuela.
