In an effort to find an easy hairstyle to save time in the morning I decided to get a ponytail with hair extensions. Not only did it help me save time; I noticed that it changed people’s perception of me.
I got the idea to put a ponytail in my hair by looking at other women. The women I saw with the ponytail people seemed circling around them asking them questions about where they got their hair done at and how nice it looked. After awhile I decided that a ponytail is the way to style my hair. After all with that style it will save me time in the morning because I don’t have to worry about styling my hair. After I got my ponytail in my hair the reaction I thought did happen when I came into work that Monday after having it done on Sunday. All of a sudden people started to notice the way my hair looked. I received comments about how nice my hair looks since I had it done. When I wore my hair natural no one committed even though I would have had it done, as they like to say. Not until I wore the ponytail did I get the added complements. Not only did the ponytail change people perception of me; I also started to feel different as well. Now with this added hair I began to have a different perception of myself. Now when I visited my Caucasian friends I also had hair that swung in the back when we went out dancing. I also did not have to worry about rolling up my hair at night, which always brought questions like “why are you doing that to your hair” and “how can you sleep in those”. After awhile though I began to miss my natural hair. I missed the fact that I did not have hairpins sticking me in the back of my head. I also missed the variety of hairstyles that could wear because my hair was natural. Sure it took more time in the morning but I was not stuck with the same style every day. So in the end took the ponytail out. I realized that I did not need someone else hair that I brought in a store to give me self-esteem, I had it already. All I needed to do was to show that convenience every day and the people that count will notice. Go To Page: 1 2
