Non-Lead Telephone Talk ( Part One )© James D. Dawson
Non-lead telephone talks are used in obtaining sales and appointments. There are "non-lead" and "lead" telephone talks that are used for these purposes. This article will be devoted to the non-lead telephone talks.
One of the easiest tricks of the trade to use in determining who are your prime prospects that you may call on to approach with your advertising promotion, are those who have advertised in other newspapers in the past. Another words make it easy on yourself and make some rounds to your local grocery stores, drug stores and newspaper outlets and pick up a few of the free publications that have businesses advertising in them. You are actually benefitting from the work and research that other sales representatives have done just recently in locating these businesses that have chosen a newspaper as their advertising media. Here is a tip. The free publications typically have the cheapest advertising rates. This tells you right from the beginning of your research that you are about to perform, when you start sorting through the advertisements that the businesses were looking for either bargain rates or cheap advertising. Free publications usually offer bargain rates for "Display Ads". These are advertisements shown in a blocked out area such as a 4"x6" ad sometimes showing the company logo. If you decide to buy one of your city or town newspapers, you will see a lot of "Text Ads". This is because the advertising rate in this type of newspaper is much higher. The business advertisers that you want to pay most attention to in these newspapers are the ones that are using "Display Ads". These are the businesses with the most clout. They are paying dearly for their ad space. Others to pay attention to are the ones that have chosen to use "Business Card" size advertising. The "Business Card" advertising space is the next step up from the "Text Ads" space advertising. You now actually have your choice of businesses to call with your own newspaper advertising promotion. Businesses who are actively already advertising in newspapers. In the articles to follow we will demonstrate how an actual non-lead telephone talk should be written for your use in obtaining advertisers in your own advertising newspaper. Good Selling!! James D.
