Trail Running 101With spring just around the corner, it's time to lace up your running shoes and get ready to hit the trails. If you've never been much of a runner, trail running might be just the thing to sway you into becoming one by exposing you to the sights and sounds of the outdoors. If you're a seasoned street runner, trail running is sure to improve your performance by energizing your soul with natural beauty. Taking to the trails provides an opportunity to commune with nature--whether it's running through the dense, foggy redwoods or along a windswept coastline. Listening to birds and watching wildlife makes running more of an adventure than a chore. Trail running also allows for improved balance since the path is usually uneven and probably has obstacles, such as rocks or stumps--lots of hills for strength training too. A word of caution: The surrounding scenery can be a bit of a distraction, but it essential to keep your eyes on the trail as much as possible because it is much easier to trip and fall on a dirt trail than on a smooth cement path. Also, as with any sport, make sure to consult your doctor before taking up trail running--and make sure to drink plenty of water while exercising in order to prevent dehydration. Here are some items that will help you get on the right track to becoming a trail runner: Shoes: Asics Eagle Trail II Nutrition: Honey Stinger Bars
