2000 Olympics on the Web

©

The 2000 Olympics are just around the corner. They are taking place in Sydney, Australia in September. Adventure sports are becoming more and more a part of the Olympics. The 2000 Olympics will include sailing, windsurfing, rowing, kayaking and mountain biking. Unfortunately these sports will get little or no television coverage. However you can follow them on the Web.

One of my favorite Web sites is "http://www.nbcolympics.com". This site is produced by NBC and Quokka sports, known for giving Web surfers an inside look at sports that don't get much TV coverage. You can read about your favorite athlete, listen to sound clips from athletes discussing participation in the Olympics, see action-packed photo galleries of events, find out the latest medal count, or learn the rules and regulations of a particular sport.

Here are some other great Olympics sites to check out:

  • http://www.olympics.com/eng -The official site of the Olympics. It is offered in various languages and provides information on athletes, events, Olympics history and a schedule of when the events will take place and be broadcast on television. You can also buy tickets and memorabilia online.
  • http://www.olympic.org/ -Site of the International Olympic Committee. This graphically aesthetic site has sections for Olympic Collectors, National Olympic Committees, Olympic Television Archive Bureau, Torina 2006, Athens 2004, Salt Lake 2002, World Anti-Doping Agency, International Sport Federations, and Olympic Museum.
  • http://www.ozemail.com.au/~dbates/olympa... -A view of the Sydney Olympic Park. Take a peek at photographs of the Homebush Bay facilities including the Olympic Village, the SuperDome, and the Aquatic Centre.
  • http://www.abc.net.au/news/olympics/stud... -Australian Broadcasting Corporation coverage. Listen to audio reports discussing the Olympics.
  • http://www.sydney2000.com/ -Find out about employment opportunities at the Olympics.
  • http://www.inta-aussie.com/olympics.html -Information about traveling to Sydney for the Olympics. For general information about Sydney, check out "http://sydney.citysearch.com.au"
. This site offers information about the Arts, Fashion & Beauty, Film, Food & Wine, Health & Leisure, House & Garden, Motoring, Music & Nightlife, Office & Technologies, Parties & Occasions, Professionals & Careers, Visitor Guide and Weekends Away. You can find out about upcoming events, check the weather or read the latest news.

Web sites are great ways to find out information about the Olympics whether you'll be there to see them or not. You can find out event schedules, read bios of the athletes competing in the events, learn more about Sydney -where the events are taking place, who is winning in each event, and watch video clips of certain events. There is a lot of information out there. If you can't afford to buy a ticket to Sydney and some of your favorite events are not being covered on TV, then log on and enjoy the Olympics through the Web.
