A New Way to Watch Sports

What was Michael Johnson thinking before he set the 400 meter world track record? What was going through his mind? Was he scared, nervous, confident? To find out, all you have to do is log onto http://www.quokka.com.

Traditionally, the best way to watch sports has been to turn on the television, but now the Internet is taking it to extremes, giving you a glimpse of what the athletes are feeling as they compete.

"We can get you inside the event, to see the event from the inside looking out," said Alan Ramadan, Quokka Sports CEO. "It's really about seeing the sport through the athletes eyes, from the perspective of the athlete."

Television coverage give you an overall view of the event...who won, who lost, who was injured...but Quokka.com is changing the way the world watches sports by using the Internet to allow you to go behind the scenes.

Quokka is not only covering Olympic sports, they also cover sailing, auto racing and adventure sports like mountain climbing.

John Climaco recently returned from a Quokka mountain climbing expedition to the Karakoram mountain range in China and said he enjoyed being able to tell his story from his point of view.

"Why would somebody leave their family for three months and go to China and suffer all this bad weather and danger? What the hell would motivate you to do this? That's what you want to hear about," said Climaco. "There were days when I didn't know why I was doing this. It seemed like this was stupid and pointless and I would've just rather been home, but then the clouds would clear and the snow would go away and I would look at where I was and think God we don't have enough time here. I need a year."

So, just how does technology allow us to look into the minds, hearts and souls of these athletes? Quokka uses satelite phones and laptop computers to send information such as emails from the athletes, digital photos and videos and it even lets you monitor the heart rates of the athletes.

Sports enthusiasts no longer have to be stuck watching sports from one perspective, now they can take a deeper look at what's really going on.
