With the sunny days of summer behind us, the cold, dreary winter weather is around the corner, which means that mountain biking, kayaking and windsurfing will give way to snowboarding and skiing. But there are some indoor alternatives that will provide some fun and excitement during the off-season. Check out these indoor adventure sports:
Rock Climbing Gym:
When the rocks get too splippery to climb, head indoors to keep up on your skills. Rock climbing gyms are popping up everywhere. There might just be a gym near you. And if you've never tried rock climbing, a gym is a good place to start. Most gyms include all the necessary equipment with the lesson. Check out Planet Granite rock climbing gym ("http://climbing.about.com/library/blplan...") in Belmont, California. For more information about rock climbing, take a look at About.com's Climbing site. It is filled with information about where to climb, how to climb and what gear you need to climb: "http://climbing.about.com".
Kart Racing:
For those who feel the need for speed, check out indoor kart racing. These cars can go over 30 miles per hour, which is fast when you're only inches off the ground. So suit up, don your helmet and racing gloves and go! For those who love competitive, this sport will be especiially rewarding because you get to race against others on the track. If you want to give it a try, check out the SpeedRing race track in Santa Clara, California: "http://www.speedring-kartracing.com".
Windsurfing:
No need to worry about not having any wind or about the water being too choppy--with indoor windsurfing you'll always have perfect conditions. And you don't have to stress about being attacked by a shark! Check out indoor windsurfing in the U.K.: "http://www.pressbox.co.uk/Detailed/8307....".
Ice Skating:
For those of you who might not think this is an "adventure" sport--have you tried it lately? Ice skating can be a dangerous and exciting sport. And the good thing is that most cities have indoor ice skating rinks. So strap on your blades and give it a whirl. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, check out this directory of rinks in the area: "http://www.barinks.com/".
So, don't fret about the wet weather around the corner, instead, you can look forward to the many indoor sports opportunities that await you.
