The Truth About Thinking Critically© Julie Spears A few observations and much reasoning leads to errors; many observations and a little reasoning to truth. - Alexis Carrel Critical thinking requires that we bypass our built-in biases and unquestioning acceptances of what is presented to us as fact, and evaluate information based on the evidence that exists, no more and no less. Much of the time we make decisions before knowing the facts, subconsciously filter evidence, or do not tolerate other points of view. It is difficult, even when we are aware of a fallacy in our thinking, to change our minds.
Although the Psychology of Intelligence Analysis was written with the purpose of improving the analyses made by CIA Intelligence agents, it is very interesting reading for anyone interested in the role of human perception in determining and interpreting observations.
