The Subject is Physics

In the last hundred years, research in pure science has revealed much about how the universe works. In addition to advancing understanding of the nature of the universe, physical research has resulted in unexpected benefits. Linear electron accelerators treat millions of cancer victims worldwide every year. Medical diagnoses are aided with CAT (Computer-Aided Tomography) scans and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) technology resulted from particle physics research. Lasers are used not only in medicine, but also in areas such as information storage for CD-ROM discs and players and hologram art.

Physics ranges from the microscopic, such as the top quark, to the macroscopic, the universe. The Internet has some excellent tutorials, demonstrations, and online textbooks.

  • Welcome to Zona Land Physics, mathematical sciences and general mathematics presented in an educational and interesting way.
  • Cosmology Tutorial
  • A Teacher's Guide to Superconductivity for High School Students A curriculum guide from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, produced by the Department of Energy Teacher Research Associates (TRAC) program. Includes professional demonstrations, student experiments as well as text describing the research and fundamental features of superconductivity and explores the possibilities of applications.
  • Welcome to the World of Physical Chemistry - Chemistry Visualized A dynamic multimedia course in the physical chemistry of life and the environment produced by the Senses Bureau of the University of California at San Diego with the following topics: Quantum Mechanics, Air Pollution, X-Ray Diffraction, Molecular Dynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Spectroscopy.
  • The Motion Mountain Textbook Project "Hiking beyond space and time along the concepts of modern physics" An evolving online textbook about motion from the perspectives of classical physics, general relativity, and quantum theory. Select the PDF links, rather than the Table of Contents at the bottom of the page to read the materials.
  • Classical Electrodynamics On-Line Textbook
  • Classical Electrodynamics On-Line Exercises Book The Electromagnetic Field Theory Textbook Project is an online textbook with accompanying workbook with solutions is available in DVI, Postscript, and PDF formats.
