Living a Dream of Lifelong Learning© Julie Spears
I have had a dream about communities of lifelong learners that is becoming a reality. In my dream, the participation of any interested learners as both learners and teachers, including senior citizens and those with physical disabilities would be flexible through the use of a wide range of synchronous and asynchronous delivery methods.
Information disseminated over the Internet inspires the sharing of ideas and promotes the progress of possibilities into realities. Community Centers and Community Information Systems, a project of the University of Michigan, has a web of community-building information, "The Community Connector”. Delivery of educational materials through technologies such as videoconferencing is making education accessible for the homebound. The Video-Conferencing Cookbook is an excellent guide to this technology. The Clearinghouse on Entrepreneurship Education (CELCEE) at can provide information to live your dream. They help prepare individuals with the concepts and skills to recognize opportunities that others have overlooked, and to have the insight and self-esteem to act where others have hesitated. Experts in the field of cognitive science have discovered that learning is truly a lifelong process. Our brains are constantly adapting to our environment throughout our lives. Age does not decrease the desire or the aptitude for learning. The value of life is the sum of accumulated experience and knowledge. Go To Page: 1
