A is for Apple Cider

If you do try to make some of your own cider, besides the press you'll need apples. A bushel of apples will produce two gallons of cider. You'll also need plastic or glass containers to store the cider. And, of course, remember to work in a clean environment with great-looking apples. If you wouldn't eat that apple, it's probably not a good idea to press it!

If you store your cider for a length of time, an alcoholic beverage will be produced - hard cider. If the hard cider is exposed to the air, it changes again into cider vinegar. So, be aware of where and how your store your homemade or store-bought cider or it may not be cider the next time you look!

Besides apple cider, there are many other recipes for enjoying the taste of apples. I love a fresh hot apple pie (my wife makes a great one!) and crispy cider donuts. My wife enjoys apple butter, jams, and jellies. I'm sure you all have your own favorites!

Enjoy the fall apple season, and be safe!
