The days are starting to get longer, not a lot warmer, but there is still plenty of winter activities left for this season.

As the winter carnivals wind down in February, it's time to look around and see what other activities are going on in the Adirondacks.

Lapland Lake is a complete cross country ski resort in the southern Adirondacks. It was founded in 1978 by former U. S. Olympian Olavi Hirvonen. The resort features a 50km trail system for cross country skiers of all levels. The trail system has a 38km snowcat groomed section and 12km of ungroomed mapped snowshoe trails. The trails are open daily from 9am - 4:30pm. Adults can use the trails for $10., juniors $5., and seniors $8.

The vacation center has a ski shop with rental equipment, restaurant, snack bar, and 10 housekeeping cottages ranging in size from two to four bedrooms.

Lapland Lake also offers other winter activities including snowshoeing, ice skating, tubing, sledding, kicksledding, and a wilderness ski tour. Night skiing is also available every Friday and Saturday night.

Highlights during the month of March include; March 9-10 - Moonlit Skiing until 9pm, March 11 - Reindeer Jouring Demonstration, March 24-25 - Skier Appreciation Weekend, and March 24 - Sisu Race.

So if you thought winter was winding down in the Adirondacks, you can see there is still plenty going on in Lapland Lake. Enjoy!
