W is for Winter CarnivalThe month of February brings the Lake George Winter Carnival to the North Country. With the extreme long run of constant temperatures below 32 degrees this season, there is plenty of ice to go around! In the past the Winter Carnival at Lake George has had a go of it with warm temps., but not this year! Every weekend in February is slated for action on the ice of Lake George in the village. The activities range from skating, cross-country skiing, and tobogganing, to motorcycle races, car races, and snowmobile races. All on the ice! The events even include a golf tournament, outhouse races, and a parade. Other area activities for February include down hill skiing events at Gore Mountain, ice fishing tournaments at Lake Luzerne, West Mountain has snowmobile races, and there are Dog Sled races in Warrensburg. Saratoga Springs offers a Winterfest from February 2-4. Activities include games, a craft fair, dogsled rides, casino games, "Chowderfest" at area restaurants, and a Candlelight Cross-Country Ski event. Saranac Lake has a winter carnival that runs from February 2 thru 11. Activities there include an Ice Palace, cross-country skiing, ice skating, fireworks, and more. So check the calendar and go out and enjoy the fun on the ice in Lake George and the surrounding areas in the North Country!
