Soul Mates

Spiritual Partner, Soul Mate; these terms are becoming more and widely used as the new age sets in and metaphysics takes a huge step forward in the world of conscious thinking. But what exactly is a "Spiritual Partner" or a "Soul Mate"?

According to Susie and Otto Collins in their Love and Relationships Newsletter - "If you want your relationships to be "real," alive and powerful, we suggest the concept of spiritual partnership. A spiritual partnership is not about religion--it's about two people coming together, using their relationship as a venue to heal, learn and grow."

When two people come together as Spiritual Partners or Soul Mates, one would tend to gravitate toward the conception of a husband, wife or significant other. That is, after all, what most of us strive for in life - a perfect mate! Is this, indeed, the only factor in a spiritual union with another, or could there be more to this type of partnership than most of us think?

The Collins' state that "In a spiritual partnership, *(THIS CAN BE ANY RELATIONSHIP)* each partner is committed to telling the truth, and not holding back, however painful it might be. The relationship is alive, growing, and filled with passion because of constant communication and being willing to tackle issues as they arrive. Each partner can be himself or herself - with no hiding."

Anyone - whether it be a husband, wife, parent, friend or child has the ability to develop and grow along side another into a deep and meaningful relationship. Children with special needs are especially prone to seek out this type of union with family members. With the feelings of despair that a disability such as ADHD can bring to a child, the knowingness of being one with a parent or sibling can bring a whole new meaning and focus to life.

Any parent, brother, sister... of a child afflicted with ADHD knows of the day to day struggles associated to living and coping with the behavior problems brought upon by such a disability, but we also know that behind that veil is an extremely bright and passionate individual deeply yearning to love and be loved.

Susie and Otto Collins quote Marriane Williamson as saying "Everything we do is either an act of love or a cry for help. That's what a soulmate does for you--they are there to love you AND to help you when you cry for help."
