Natures Way To Healing

Thank you, a concerned mom

When talking to children with ADHD about the effects of medication, three out of four reported side effects such as drowsiness, lack of appetite, irritability and difficulty falling asleep at night. Gloria, a 12 year old girl who was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 6 states; "I get really sleepy after I take my meds, and sometimes I fall asleep in class. I feel sad a lot too, for no reason I just start crying. My doctor changed my prescription a few times to see if that would help, but it didn't. Maybe my body just doesn't like the pills."

Alternative care may provide a solution to the problems these people, and thousands more like them, share. In choosing and practicing natural methods to healing, one gains a greater sense of self-awareness and confidence. In Bernie Siegle's - Love, Medicine and Miracles he states; "One's attitude towards oneself is the single most important factor in healing or staying well." There are numerous approaches to self-healing, we will take a look at the three most commonly used methods: meditation, visualization and nutrition. Utilizing these techniques with your child can help them to master self-discipline and a better sense of self.

Meditation:

Meditation is an ancient technique that brings body, mind and spirit in sync. There are many methods, but most have common elements. Though the content may differ, most forms of meditation involve turning your attention inward, away from your usual preoccupations and activities, and focusing on a particular object, such as the breath, a visualization or a sound. In the process, you make the simple but significant shift from thinking and doing to just being. With repeated practice, your mind begins to settle down, your breathing slows, and you settle into a relaxed, peaceful state. According to Rajneesh Osho in - Meditation: The First and Last Freedom: "Meditation has a few essential things in it, whatever the method, but those few essentials are necessary in every method. They differ in their constitution, but the fundamentals remain the same: relaxation, watchfulness, a non-judgmental attitude." http://www.deeshan.com/osho.htm

The Meditation Room is a great starting point in your child's introduction to meditation. http://www.learningmeditation.com/room.h... The Children's Meditation Series is a set of five different meditations for children: Reducing Stress, Awareness, Observation, Feelings/Sensations and Validation. It is an audio series that you and your child can listen to on your computer, at your convenience. The philosophy here is "If we guide young people to look to themselves as their own source of calm, peace and self-esteem they will ultimately be better prepared for all
