I am always ready to learn, but I do not always like being taught.
Winston Churchill
Truer words were never spoken when it comes to kids and school, especially coming from someone with AD/HD. That's right, Winston Churchill himself grew up struggling with the day to day challenges of this learning disability. He managed, however, to get beyond the battle of AD/HD and live a very successful life. A world famous Historian, Politician, Statesman and Nobel Prize Winner, that's an amazing accomplishment for any person, let alone one with a learning disability. Perhaps the key to his success is in his own words; I do not always like being taught, or maybe it is - the way I am being taught. As our children progress through the years, we begin to look at how we as parents might be able to help them to become successful learners. The struggle to achieve does not belong just to our children, but to us also as their partners in life. Having children with AD/HD, it is inevitable that we will face many nightly confrontations and tearful resolutions, but there are ways to minimize the conflict and make learning time a positive and rewarding experience. Technology has brought us a whole new way of looking at education and learning. The days of sitting at a desk and reading from a book or off the chalkboard are becoming almost obsolete as we journey through The Age of Technology. This has given way to an array of new ways to process information. The Internet is the perfect educational tool, especially for the learning disabled. There are new sites going up daily that pertain to making learning fun.
