A Reader's Insight Into ADHDA couple of weeks ago a reader contacted me to thank me for my work here on Suite 101. I receive questions and comments occasionally, and of course, we have the message board here, but this person included a poem that I wanted to share with you. The poem is by Martie Turner, a fellow ADDer. Her poem shows some insight into what daily life with ADHD can be like. I often talk about ADHD as a gift, but the gift doesn't come without some struggles, too. Most ADDers are very resilient people - we have to be. We have daily hurdles to overcome. This poem shares some of the hurdles and heartaches as well as that positive attitude we're often known for. One line of the poem says "we all have a purpose and we all do belong". I think that sums up my feelings about ADHD quite nicely. I believe we all have a purpose - and that our gift of ADD has a place in that purpose. There are obstacles to overcome, but through it all, we all have a purpose. Thank you, Martie, for sharing with us your heart and your struggles. Each morning I get up drink a cup of coffee or three, then I go to the mirror and what do I see I see a fool, someone stupid, can't remember my name I wish I were different and I feel so ashamed. My braces go on my legs, so I can walk. I think to myself, if I had a friend we could talk. To work I will go still in this rut, to the place that I'm known as the middle school nut. No friends no companions to laugh and to play, just cleaning my rooms to finish the day. They give me more work than anyone there, I just do it and cry because it's really not fair. I clean 32 rooms in a 4 hour shift, they say, "Oh you can do it cause your fast and your swift." About all I can do is cook, Oh and I write. It just comes to my head quick with no fight. I can write poems, comedy and such, my gift from God. He gave me this touch. I always feel better when the day's at its end, I think to myself I do have a friend. You know the best thing about him, he looks within me. He knows how I suffer with this thing ADHD. Tomorrow I think I'll hold my head high, I'll do all their work and won't even cry.
