can be so distorted as to be, at best, useless and, at worst, dangerous. We can so easily be placed in the position of doing harm when our only desire was to serve. At first view, it would seem there is no ready solution to the problems we have described, whether we are speaking of the newly certified professional or those who have undergone a renaissance of perceptions, a profound change in life expression. Though there are no true shortcuts, we have found some rules that, when applied in our service to other, seem to attenuate or reduce some of the most glaring forms of abuse. In fact, we have found that, the longer these rules are used, the better they work.

RULES OF SERVICE

Never do for another what they can do for themselves and never decide what they can or cannot do for themselves. Now that sounds confusing. The confusion ends with the next rule.

Require that people ask for help. The best way that we have found to do this is to ask the question, "What do you want?" It sometimes is surprising how hard it is for them to answer this simple question. If that is the case they are usually seeking assisting in handling their emotions and the problem they present is simply a vehicle for addressing those feelings. To solve that problem disables their vehicle of expression and they will not appreciate it. Often, the biggest challenge is to find out what the person really wants.

Avoid seeking a negative goal. No energy can be challenged through a negative goal, If the person seeks to have something stop happening there is no way to direct their energy or give your own to that change. The reason: the flow of energy is from positive to negative. It's would be like not thinking about an elephant. When we fight something we feed it. Our own government has seen what has happened in the "War Against Drugs". We eliminate the power of some experience in our lives by starving it to death. If the individual is placing his efforts in what he wants, rather than the undesirable experience, that which he does not want will die from neglect and that which he wants will flourish.

Remain harmless. There will be times when we question whether our assistance to others has really been of value. That
