You Should Have Been There!

Kids can you remember where we left off last month? We were talking about the fun day called Baby Beastie Day This fun day left participants smiling. What was good about the day you might ask? Well these are the kinds of things that happened. We certainly all had fun. Q.W.A.S.I staged a day where artists could meet with each other, with kids and with their parents to talk about their work.It was a chance for art lovers and nature lovers both young and old to mix and mingle. There were animals on display at the gallery These were animals that people don't usually get a chance to see close up. These two owls for example were favourites for many people in the gathering. Click to enlarge. I found the opportunity to get near the Masked Owl (on the left) a spiritual one. This owl is so silent, so regal so dignified! Kids - you will find that indentifying birds is the best fun! See what you think of some of the owls featured here. How wonderful for you lil' guys to have an opportunity to see such wonderful creatures! Can you see that the Masked Owl has one of her wings missing? This is why she is in captivity - so that she can be cared for. Keeping these animals in captivity is not cruel their carers are doing it because they? CARE Yes this day is about much more than sociality (that means making good friends and having a good time) - it is a way of allowing you to get to know about endangered species. (When we say endangered species we mean animals that are being hurt and maybe one day these animals and birds won't even exist any more!) It is a really fun way of finding out about why we need to care for and nurture God's precious gifts to the natural world.Click to enlarge. One of the pleasures provided by being able to get so close to rare or endangered animals is to be able to take photographs of them. Artists were taking photos all day! They were trying to capture poses and expressions so that they could paint and draw interesting pictures later. The result of this will be that artists will produce fantastic artworks for you to see. They will be created over the months to come. How interesting it will be to see the paintings go on display at the gallery and online. The display is updated regularly for all to see. So do drop in from time to time to see what is happening. I am sure you will receive a friendly warm welcome. The kids (who received sample bags of art materials from Faber Castel) seemed to really enjoy meeting the artists in person. They are allowed to ask questions about how to draw and paint these creatures. This is great! We are looking for junior members. What better way to learn how to paint and to draw! How about you try to find a club like ours in your local area. It is a great way to be allowed to see professionals working on pictures right in front of you.As well as being able to meet artists the kids got the chance to meet real wildlife carers and to talk to them about the creatures they care for. If you are thinking about being a wildlife carer when you grow up - why not come along and get to know some of the people who do this job all of the time?
