Finishing Off the Headshot Ordeal

haven't really noticed any uptick in reaction to these new shots professionally, to be honest, but I feel better giving them out than I did with my last set of shots, so that's worth something. Maybe as pilot season rolls around I'll get a better sense of how my photos are working for me.

So, let's look at costs. How much do I get to deduct from my tax liability this year...?

$ 225 - Session (incl. 10% disc.), 2 film rolls, negs, proofs
$ 25 - 4x6 blow-ups (25)
$ 44 - 8x10 fiber-based original prints (4)
$ 60 - Retouch originals (total for all 4)
$ 22 - Add name (2, required for photo dupes only)
$ 260 - Photos (200x2 masters)
$ 115 - Lithos (500)
$ 85 - Postcards (500)
$ 65 - Business Cards (500)
$ 75 - Reproductions' Master Prints (100)

$ 976 - Total expenditures, tax not included in all figures, so assume around $1,000 (ouch)

Now that I have my new masters, any duplications are relatively inexpensive. I'll probably end up doing a lot of my work at Reproductions from now on, because they are quite a bit less expensive than photos and they actually look quite a bit better than lithos in most ways. Still, with as many prints as I ordered this first time around, it could be a while before I'm ready to order more. For a sample of how your headshot might look, click here (this was scanned on kind of a bad machine, but you'll get an idea). You can place your name on the left or center instead, if you prefer, and there are usually dozens of different typefaces and sizes to choose from. Many actors like to put their agency information on the front, too, though I like to put that on the resume, so I can change it more easily should that information need to be updated. Feel free to post in the discussions or e-mail me if you need any more help with your headshots.
