The SessionsMy music partner and I recently completed an exciting step in our musical careers. We recorded our first album. We call ourselves Cross Country and here is our experience. It all began when we started playing at a couple of open mics and a local coffeehouse. Most of the songs we did were covers, then we started adding a few originals. Being well received wherever we went really boosted our confidence in our music. So I began thinking about recording. Professionally. My partner was excited by the idea and so we proceeded to look for the right studio and engineer. At first the idea was to record good clean demos to send to artists and have them do the songs. But since we had written several songs already, and some of our friends and family said they liked us doing them, it was tempting to try to make our own album. Perhaps many of you have wanted to record your own album but have apprehensions about cost and time. These are legitimate concerns, but with research and good planning they are small obstacles worth overcoming. The act of completing a recording project is good for the soul and humbling to the spirit. In the following articles, I will chronicle the musical experiment that was our recording sessions. I hope it will spark some of you to share your creativity by creating a "record" of your musical achievements.
