Ivory contemporary film Le Divorce. And finally, a promising drama is also slated for August. Val Kilmer will play porn star legend John Holmes in Wonderland, a film which will examine his involvement or supposed involvement in a 1981 quadruple homicide. James Cox will direct, and Eric Bogosian, Kate Bosworth, Lisa Kudrow, and Dylan McDermott round out the cast. Not quite the kind of film that garners Oscar nominations, but Kilmer might have a shot. OSCAR OUTLOOK FOR AUGUST: The Secret Lives of Dentists has a lot of promise, could at least get a Screenplay nod, if it gets a big enough release and is discovered by enough people. It's almost like we have three distinct periods on the calendar now for films ... January through April, all the trash with a couple of surprises thrown in. May through August, summer blockbusters and sequels. And then September through December, the best of the best. It wouldn't surprise me if the number of Oscar nominations for 2003 films from January through August could be counted on one hand. Anyway, Summer 2003 is here, ready or not, and here's to another fun summer at the movies. In between times down at the beach and times spent watching these movies, I'll still be hard at work at my two new screenplays, so it will be a little while again between articles, but keep checking back ... you know you can always count on me to be here to follow the
