The Oscar Experience: Lexi Goes To The Oscars© Jason O'Brien
It was still early on during the 75th Annual Academy Awards a couple of weeks ago. The next presenter, actress Jennifer Garner arrived on stage with a special guest ... none other than Mickey Mouse! We know from Academy history that this always means that the short film awards are about to be presented, as they typically like to bring out an animated character to present the Animated Short Film Oscar, which ends up being coupled with the Live Action Short Film Academy Award. The animated short Oscar was first, which went to The ChubbChubbs!, then it was time for Best Live Action Short. The list of nominees were shown, and then Jennifer opened the envelope ... and the winner was This Charming Man. Martin Strange-Hansen then arrived on stage to accept the award.
That's what all the world watching saw happen that night, but there was more going on than what we saw, and now in this, the final article in my special Oscar Experience series, we conclude the story of Lexi Alexander's Academy Awards experience with a look at her Oscar Day and evening, and what this Oscar Season has been to her. If you recall from the previous two articles in the series, Lexi Alexander and her team were nominated for Best Live Action Short Film for their wonderful short film, Johnny Flynton, which I think a lot of people had thought was the frontrunner to win, as it was the only American made film in the list. Unfortunately, the Academy thought differently, but Lexi and her fellow nominees all got to experience something so very few ever get to experience ... being an Oscar nominee and attending the Academy Awards. The Oscar Experience series is meant to provide those behind the scenes stories and profiles on Oscar nominees that are not typically covered by the news media. We all know about Nicole Kidman, Adrien Brody, Chris Cooper, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, but it's also important to hear the stories of those also nominated for Oscars and what it's like to be a part of Hollywood's Biggest Night. Of course if you remember when we last checked in with Lexi, one of her big decisions was deciding on the dress she would wear for Oscar Night. A designer friend of hers, Tom Farrell, who teaches at the California Design College on Wilshire Boulevard, had told her that he would make her a dress if she were nominated. He produced on that promise, and Lexi ended up looking stunning in a chautreuse 1940's style dress. She was even the subject of Farrell's class for a while, as his students were able to make comments and contribute their ideas to the design of the dress. Since describing fashion is not my strong suit, the pictures of Lexi in the dress say it all. Lexi is not the typical jewelry type, so she found it ironic that she was next going to find jewelry for the big night. Modern Design in downtown Los Angeles graciously agreed to loan her jewelry.
