and coverage required by some of these networks, and of course, if anything happens with the schedule for the Oscars). Of course, the E! Entertainment network is planning their traditional all day coverage, beginning at 6 AM Central Time, with their "Countdown to the Academy Awards." We thought (and hoped!) that with no red carpet interviews, Joan and Melissa Rivers might be sidelined this year, but the latest word from E! is that they will still begin their show at 5 PM Central until 7 PM, providing whatever coverage they can (and hopefully more subdued than they usually are!) Immediately following the Oscars, E! is devoting two hours to various post show coverage, which could also be curtailed as several parties have announced that they will not allow press to interview stars as they arrive at these parties. Besides E!, there's some other programming of interest scheduled for this weekend, but again, subject to change, especially some of the programming on ABC, where coverage could switch over to war news. Music channel VH1 plans a Behind The Red Carpet special on Sunday at 4:30 PM Central. Joel Siegel's Road to the Academy Awards special will air in syndication throughout the weekend. The Academy should make a final decision on going on with Sunday night's broadcast today or tomorrow. As of now, everything is still a go, just much more toned down. I sincerely hope that the Academy and ABC decide to go forward with the Oscars as planned ... movies and the Academy Awards have always been a refuge away from the sometimes difficult events in our world, and they should not be postponed. A toned down show, of course ... but the show should still go on.
