The Oscar Experience: Lexi Alexander and Johnny Flynton

I interviewed Lexi very soon after she had heard that her film was nominated for the Oscar. Originally born in Germany, Lexi is actually a former World Karate and Kickboxing champion, who found a love for film during her travels around the world competing. Lexi now resides in Los Angeles, and that's where she was on the morning of Tuesday, February 11, when the 75th Annual Oscar Nominations were announced. She was at her house with one of her best friends, Nita, who also happens to be her neighbor. Lexi and her crew knew that Johnny Flynton was in the final ten for consideration for the Oscar, what the Academy calls the "short list", so there was anticipation. Interestingly enough, Johnny Flynton is the only American made film in the list of nominees this year, as all the rest are foreign films. Lexi said that she has seen all the other films nominated, and agrees with the Academy that they are all very good achievements. She believes that the fact that theirs is the only American film in the list is great for them, and this journalist cannot disagree with that fact ... I think it's probably the favorite to win.

Lexi will of course be attending the Academy Awards on March 23. Lexi said, "Fellow nominee and my genius cinematographer Alex Buono will attend with producer Chris Mans and star Dash Mihok. I have had several calls from designers about wearing their dresses and I'm trying to get some free suits for the guys as well." Lexi is also excited about the fact that they will be attending for the Academy's 75th anniversary show, which makes the experience even more special. This will be the first time Lexi and any of her crew have attended the Oscars.

Lexi stated "Everybody is completely thrilled and proud. We had some great calls from some of our Birmingham crew members. I would like to mention two of them whom without we couldn't have done it. Chris Holmes and Philip Jaffe, both native Birmingham boys. Can't wait to work with this awesome crew again."

And it appears she will be working with them again. Plans are already underway for a feature length version of Johnny Flynton, and she does hope to shoot the film in Birmingham again. When asked about the planned feature version of the film, and whether we'll see the same wonderful actors in the longer
