The 2002 Film Awards Season: The Calendar

December is here! And the 2002 Film Awards Season begins in just 3 days when the National Board of Review gives us our traditional send-off.

I know I say this every year, but it really seems true this year ... where has the time gone? Doesn't seem possible that it's already time for the next film awards season. But indeed here we are ... and not only do we have all the various film awards beginning this month, but we also have a wonderful month for movies, and the first frontrunners in the Oscar race will begin to take shape once we get through some of these precursor awards and the boxoffice releases of the final films of the year.

So, as a way to get started with the annual coverage here at Suite 101 of the film awards season, this article will simply lay out the schedule of important dates that takes us all the way through the end of March and the 75th Annual Academy Awards.

The schedule is not that much different for 2002 than it was last year. We do have a new precursor to the mix, the 1st Annual Visual Effects Society Awards, and we have the Writers Guild and Directors Guild shifting around dates, but not that much different. So here it is ... all the important dates you'll need to know for the 2002 Film Awards Season.

December is primarily the month for the larger, more well known film critics organizations, such as the New York and Los Angeles critics, as well as the nominations for the Golden Globes and others.
