Other Oscars ... Sound Editing went to Pearl Harbor ... yes indeed, the words we thought we'd never hear are now true ... Oscar Winner Pearl Harbor ... I shudder. Best Documentary Feature went to Murder on a Sunday Morning, which did indeed surprise. Best Documentary Short went to Thoth, Best Live Action Short Film was The Accountant, and Best Animated Short Film went to the deserving Pixar short, For The Birds. So it was a mixed bag this year ... some disappointing choices and some disappointing moments, but overall, some truly wonderful and history making moments which will easily be remembered as some of Oscar's Greatest Moments years from now. Some other final comments from this year's Oscars ... I liked the more detailed Best Picture film clips, allowing the directors to discuss their films in more detail than just showing a clip. I hope that trend continues. The Cirque de Soleil performance was incredible. The Best Song nominees all played on stage one after the other, in the same kind of style done two years ago. I didn't like that style then, and I didn't like it last Sunday either. The performances need to be stretched out over the show. I was glad to see all the original artists performing though, bringing some wonderful musical talent together on one night. There was one moment at the 74th Annual Academy Awards however which rivaled them all, and unfortunately, it has also come under much criticism. So I will devote a separate article in just a couple of days to discussing this ... and that was the Best Actress Academy Award going to Halle Berry for her incredible performance in Monster's Ball, and the subsequent three minute plus speech she gave. And with that, I will wrap up the film awards season, and the 74th Annual Academy Awards discussions.
