the Golden Globes do. But there are however some additional Oscar categories which could be added. An award for Best Ensemble, just for the cast of a movie, would be a great award, allowing a whole group of actors to be honored for a film. This is one award from another awards show (the SAG awards) which I think would serve well for the Academy. Plus I may be the only one who thinks a Best Casting award should be given to the casting agents, since casting is such a critical job of making a film a success. I also think the creativity that goes into creating a good movie poster could also be honored, but I know that's more of a frivolous award, and doesn't relate to something specifically on the film itself. But overall, I think the Academy pretty much covers it all when it comes to honoring the various parts of film production.
In other movie news, the big debate over movie ratings and specifically the way the industry has marketed R-rated movies to kids continues, as Congress has been holding hearings on the issue with some of the heads of some of the major Hollywood studios. The studios have admitted some wrong-doing here, and some have committed to no longer previewing R-rated films in front of kids movies, and to be more careful about the marketing of R-rated movies. The biggest issue comes down to enforcing the ratings at the movie theatre, and making sure that a kid doesn't sneak into an R rated movie after paying for a PG film, and theoretically, this could be done, by hiring more staff to watch the entrances and exits of the theatres, and perhaps checking ticket stubs at the entrances to the separate theatres. I can certainly understand the problem that Congress is debating, and I agree with Roger Ebert that yet another overhaul of the movie rating system is necessary. He has lobbied for some time for an A rating, which would be strictly adult, where no kids would be allowed in at all. That way, the R rating could have more room, and not be crowded with films that probably should only be viewed by adults, like an unedited EYES WIDE SHUT or NATURAL BORN KILLERS.
