The Oscar Nominations were finally announced! The 72nd Annual Academy Award nominations were revealed this past Tuesday, read by Robert Rehme, president of the Academy, and two time Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman.

As expected, a lot of the nominees that had been the general consensus were indeed nominated, but the Academy, as always, found some room to drop in some big surprises. To see our reactions to the nominations, keep reading!

First of all, a look at how good we did on my predictions from last week. We had one of my best nominee-predicting years this year, predicting 25 out of the 30 nominees in the six major categories correctly!

And for the first time ever, we correctly predicted Best Actress 5 for 5! We were 4 for 5 in all the other major categories. But for a more detailed analysis, let's go through the six main categories.

Best Picture Nomination 1999

The Cider House Rules was definitely the biggest surprise in this year's Academy Awards nominations, getting 7 total nominations, one behind the leader, American Beauty. Its Best Picture nomination was the only one we didn't predict, and as we predicted, The Green Mile was duly honored by the Academy with a nomination here.

We think we're about to see Dreamworks vs. Miramax Round 2 this year ... Cider House Rules is getting a lot of momentum already from its surprise Best Picture nod, and we think it really comes down to these two, but it's still too early to call, but personally, we hope Dreamworks claims sweet revenge and kicks Miramax's butt good this time.

Cider House Rules was a good film, but no Best Picture of the Year. And as expected, The Sixth Sense is in this list, but has no chance of winning. The Insider is truly a great film, but we don't think it has enough to win Best Picture.

Best Actor Nomiations 1999

We were 4 for 5 here also, and the surprise here was a nomination for Sean Penn's performance in Woody Allen's Sweet and Lowdown.

And once again, Jim Carrey was snubbed. Even though we were disappointed by Man on the Moon, we agreed his performance as Andy Kaufman was one of the year's five best performances, and he should have been nominated. Otherwise, we've got the juggernaut of performances that we all knew would be nominated ... Denzel, Kevin, Russell, and Richard, and this one will indeed be tough to predict.
