Lots of news to pass along this week ... first up though, two critics organizations announced their choices for the best of 1999 this week, and here's a look at who and what they honored from the Boston Film Critics and the Los Angeles Film Critics.

LA Film Critics Association Awards, December 11, 1999
- Best Picture: The Insider / Runner Up: American Beauty
- Best Director: Sam Mendes - American Beauty / Runner Up: Michael Mann - The Insider
- Best Actor: Russell Crowe - The Insider / Runner Up: Richard Farnsworth - The Straight Story
- Best Actress: Hilary Swank - Boys Don’t Cry / Runner Up: Reese Witherspoon - Election
- Best Supporting Actor: Christopher Plummer - The Insider / Runner Up: John Malkovich - Being John Malkovich
- Best Supporting Actress: Chloe Sevigny - Boys Don’t Cry / Runner Up: Samantha Morton - Sweet and Lowdown
- Best Screenplay: Charlie Kaufman - Being John Malkovich / Runner Up: Alan Ball - American Beauty
- Best Foreign Language Film: All About My Mother (Pedro Almodovar, Spain) / Runner Up: The Dreamlife of Angels (Erick Zonca, France)
- Best Documentary Film: Buena Vista Social Club (Wim Wenders & Ry Cooper) / Runner Up: Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter Jr (Errol Morris)
- Best Cinematography: Dante Spinotti - The Insider / Runner Up: Conrad L. Hall - American Beauty
- Best Production Design: Rick Heinrichs - Sleepy Hollow / Runner Up: Dante Ferretti - Titus
- Best Music Score: Trey Parker & Marc Shaiman - South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut / Runner Up: Gabriel Yared - The Talented Mr Ripley
- Best Animated Feature: The Iron Giant (Brad Bird) / Runner Up: Princess Mononoke (Hayao Miyazaki)
- New Generation Award: Alexander Payne - Election
The L.A. Film Critics are one of the major precursors along with the New York Film Critics. The Insider continues to win honors, making it a serious Oscar contender. All About My Mother is certainly the top favorite for Foreign Film after all the honors it's been receiving.
