Finally, this week, some more Oscar trivia for you! This week, it's time to look at Oscar's most honored individuals.

In the Best Actress category, as you probably know, Katharine Hepburn still holds the all time record, with 12 nominations spanning from 1932 to 1981. And she has also won the most acting Oscars of any other actor, 4 of them. Do you know for which films she won for?
  • Morning Glory
  • Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
  • The Lion in Winter
  • On Golden Pond
The other most honored leading actresses include:
  • Meryl Streep and Bette Davis, tied with 11 nominations.
  • Geraldine Page received 8 Best Actress nominations
  • Greer Garson and Jane Fonda each received the honor of a nomination 7 times, as well as Ingrid Bergman.

How about the leading actors?

  • Jack Nicholson leads the pack, with 11 nominations and 3 Oscar victories, all happening since 1969. Laurence Olivier received 10 nominations.
  • Spencer Tracy was nominated 9 times.
  • A fine group of actors were nominated 8 times : Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, Jack Lemmon, and Al Pacino.
  • Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton -- they each were nominated 7 times, but never won.

New Producers for 1999 Academy Awards Broadcast

And speaking of the next Academy Awards, there was some news this week about the next Oscar telecast, and that involves some new producers who will be producing the next Academy Awards, one of which will be the first woman ever to produce an Oscar telecast.

The Academy officially announced this week that Oscar winning producers Richard D. Zanuck and Lili Fini Zanuck will produce the 72nd Annual Academy Awards telecast. The Zanucks won the Best Picture Oscar for 1989 for producing that year's winner, Driving Miss Daisy.

The Zanucks will take the reins from Gilbert Cates, who produced the last three shows and a record of nine Oscar telecasts altogether.

We certainly will miss Gil Cates, who has definitely brought a distinctive style and a love for the Oscars to the telecasts he produced, but hopefully the Zanucks will bring something new and unique to the next Oscar telecast.

The 72nd Annual Academy Awards are scheduled for Sunday evening, March 26, 2000, and the nominees are announced on February 15 of 2000 ... the countdown begins!
