Here are some interesting facts about some of this year's Oscar's nominees.

Two nods in one year

The two acting nominations for Jamie Foxx make him the 10th person to be nominated in both acting categories in the same year. The others are Fay Bainter (1938*), Teresa Wright (1942*), Barry Fitzgerald (1944*), Jessica Lange (1982*), Sigourney Weaver (1988), Al Pacino (1992*), Holly Hunter (1993*), Emma Thompson (1993) and Julianne Moore (2002). [The asterisk indicates a win in one of the categories. No person has yet won in both categories in the same year.]

Real honoured

Four out of the five leading actor nominees portrayed real life characters in earning their nominations. Only Clint Eastwood as "Frankie Dunn" in Million Dollar Baby played a fictional character.

Newbys arrive

Ten of the nineteen nominated performers have never been nominated before. Johnny Depp is the only repeat acting nominee from 2003. Only one nominee, Hilary Swank, has previously won an Acting Oscar.

Will a woman boxing be a hit?

Although male performers have frequently been nominated in the Academy's history for playing boxers, Hilary Swank is the first woman to join the fraternity. Previous nominations have gone to Richard Barthelmess in the first year (1927/28) of the Academy's history for The Patent Leather Kid, Wallace Beery (1931/32) for The Champ, Robert Montgomery (1941) for Here Comes Mr. Jordan, John Garfield (1947) for Body and Soul, Kirk Douglas (1949) for Champion, James Earl Jones (1970) for The Great White Hope, Sylvester Stallone (1976) for Rocky, Robert De Niro (1980) for Raging Bull, Denzel Washington (1999) for The Hurricane and Will Smith (2001) for Ali. In addition, Marlon Brando (1954, On the Waterfront) and this year's Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby) portrayed retired boxers. - Beery, Brando and De Niro, to date, have received Oscars for their performances.

Catalina Sandino Moreno's performance is in Spanish. Four performers have won Academy Awards for roles using spoken languages other than English. They are Sophia Loren (1961, Actress in Two Women), Robert De Niro (1974, Supporting Actor in The Godfather Part II), Roberto Benigni (1998, Actor in Life Is Beautiful) and Benicio Del Toro (2000, Supporting Actor in Traffic). In addition, Marlee Matlin received the 1986 Leading Actress award for a performance almost entirely in American Sign Language. The other nominees have been Marcello Mastroianni (1962, Actor in Divorce - Italian Style; 1977, Actor in A Special Day and 1987, Actor in Dark Eyes), Sophia Loren (1964, Actress in Marriage Italian Style), Anouk Aimee (1966, Actress in A Man and a Woman), Ida Kaminska (1966, Actress in The Shop on Main Street), Liv Ullmann (1972, Actress in The Emigrants and 1976, Actress in Face to Face),
