98) Del Griffith in PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES (John Candy) One of John Candy's best and most layered characters, a man who can make us laugh and cry at the same time. All makes sense by film's end as to what makes up Del Griffith, and Candy's performance couldn't have been any better. 97) Sammy Prescott in YOU CAN COUNT ON ME (Laura Linney) Laura Linney does an absolutely incredible job of portraying a very real woman in this wonderfully delightful drama/comedy. As a strong woman trying to raise her son by herself, and help save her wayward brother, all the while trying to figure out her own love life (which includes an affair with her boss at the bank), Linney made us feel we were actually getting a peak into one amazing woman's life. 96) Lt. Just watch the scene when he fights for sticking with film over the advent of video, or especially when he's watching one of his films and proclaims "It's a real film ... this is the film I want them to remember me by." A film filled with memorable characters, headed by this one incredibly memorable man. 93) John J. Dunbar in DANCES WITH WOLVES (Kevin Costner) Kicking Bird tells Dunbar in the latter half of the film "Of the many paths in this life, the one most important is the path of a true human being." That's what makes the character of Dunbar so memorable ... just to watch and be inspired by this one man's journey to eventually become a part of a people (the Sioux Indians) for which he would otherwise
