Fun in the Great Outdoors

Today, I'm going to tell you a bit about the area where we live. It is quiet here most of the time and very pretty. In winter, there is a hill in the park across the road where Mary takes Brandon and Jordan sleigh riding. There is a little creek that runs through there that is very pretty when it is dressed in ice and snow.

In summer, the boys like to play ball and tag in the park. We all run and have a lot of fun and it is good exercise. The boys like to look for rocks along the creek bed. The creek water is crystal clear and every opportunity I have, I like to get my feet wet. The water is cool and refreshing.

Along the canal where Mary and Dwight take me for my walks, there is a wooded area. I have already spotted the resident groundhog this spring and tried to get hold of him. Dwight put me in my place quickly. I've heard him and Mary talking and they say that critter could tear me up pretty bad. I guess I should let him alone, but chasing groundhogs is fun for dogs like me.

It is near this wooded area that I meet my friend Tosha. She and I have lots of fun together. I missed her last summer when she wouldn't come out of the house. There was an advertising balloon inflated and roped to a roof top not far from here. It looked a lot like a hot air balloon. Tosha was frightened to death of it and stayed in the house most of the summer.

In the woods, there are lots of birds, squirrels and chipmunks. Every morning, there is a blue heron that takes flight when we arrive at the canal for our daily walk. We see bluejays, cardinals, kingfishers, mallards, Canada geese, Baltimore orioles, red-winged blackbirds and a lot of other bird species. Mary loves to see the pileated woodpecker that lives there and I must admit he is a very handsome fellow with his colorful feathers. Maybe Mary can get a photo of him so I can show you what he looks like.

Above is a photo of me in the wooded area. The grass is so green and the aromas of spring are heaven to my nose. This is the area where I love to chase butterflies. I never hurt them and sometimes I think they know exactly the game we are playing. They stay just out of reach, but I love jumping and playing with them as they flit and flutter about.
