Help Sacramento Synagogues RebuildThe nightmare began when three fires were set within 35 minutes of each other, resulting in major damage to the Knesset Israel Torah Center and Congregation B'nai Israel and Congregation Beth Shalom synagogues. B'nai Israel is the oldest Jewish congregation west of the Mississippi. Apparently, multiple individuals coordinated their destructive efforts, leaving behind fliers with anti-Semitic text that blames Jews for the crisis in Kosovo, among other things. One of the fliers read, "The ugly American and NATO aggressors are the ultimate hypocrites. The fake Albanian refugee crisis was manufactured by the International Jewsmedia to justify the terrorizing, the bestial bombing of our Yugoslavia back into the dark ages." Officials at the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, as well as the FBI, are currently working diligently to collect evidence and identify suspects. In the meantime, we can all help our friends in Sacramento to gather the resources to rebuild their strong Jewish community. It has been estimated that over $1,000,000 in damages occurred that night, especially to the buildings' libraries. For us, the "People of the Book," this is especially tragic.
