Why I Do What I Do

You can see my name, Debbi Craig, on this article and others I have written for this topic. If you look, you will also see my name on TTC Dreams, a web site that I created for my Trying To Conceive group. You might even find a few posts I have made on different message boards, but what does this really tell you about who I am and why I do what I do?

It all seems like it was just a few weeks ago that my husband and I decided that we wanted to try to have a second child. In reality, it was almost five years ago, and that is when it all really started. I wanted to be prepared and I wanted to conceive as quickly as possible as age was a factor in the case of my husband, who was in his early 40's at the time. So, I did what many women do, I turned on my computer and searched for as much information as possible.

One of the first things I found out about was a book called "Taking Charge Of Your Fertility" or TCOYF for short, written by Toni Weschler. This book has been referred to as the TTCer's Bible, and that description really does fit. With this book, which I read front to back in three days, I was able to learn how to chart my fertility patterns so I knew when I was most likely to conceive and when I wasn't. When I had not 'succeeded' in two months, (yes, I was naive) I looked for support in the form of an online group. Not finding what I wanted, I took it upon myself to create my own group, the one I mentioned at the beginning of this article, two days after my 29th birthday.

Members started joining the group almost immediately, and I felt that I had finally found what I was meant to do - help others. My needs took a back seat to what the other ladies in the group needed; friendship, understanding, support, and information. I read everything I could get my hands on, books, web site information, and the more technical it was the more I loved it. I always shared the new information I had found, and if someone had a question, I was right there to either answer it or find the answer to it.

In early October of 1998, I became the second member of the group to announce a pregnancy. I was so excited, all the reading and research I had been doing had finally paid off with a positive pregnancy test. Could life get any better than it was now?
