Some Causes Of Infertility Can Be Prevented

Although there are some diseases that result in infertility like PCOS, there are many other things in our daily lives that could be the cause of infertility later. Taking steps before you ever entertain the idea of children can safeguard your fertility, and your dreams later.

Envision a cool night with your partner and a hot tub, just the two of you and a bottle of wine or champagne. Perfect right? Wrong! That dip in the hot tub, for even just a few minutes can kill a man's sperm. It will take him three months to reverse this, and have his count back to almost normal. A hot tub may seem relaxing and the perfect thing for the two of you, but it will cause temporary infertility.

Not only are hot tubs out of the question for men, but also hot baths and showers. Now, I am not saying that you must take cold showers or baths, but the water should be comfortable, not hot. One way to make sure that your water is not too hot is to check the heat setting on your water heater. The temperature should not be more than 120 degrees. This is still to hot for proper sperm production, so add some cool water to the shower or bath.

I know it seems like I am picking on the guys, but just a couple more things and I will get to the women. Men should not wear tight fitting clothing, use any drugs, or drink alcohol. Tight clothing or briefs pull the testicles to close to the body and can interfere with sperm production. Riding a bike on a regular basis can also do this, so be sure to keep the bike riding to a minimum. Drugs and alcohol are toxins to the body and will reduce the body's ability to produce normal sperm cells. Occasional alcoholic drinks are ok, but heavy drinkers have a marked reduction of sperm production and normal sperm present in their ejaculate.

Ok ladies, what can you do to safeguard your future fertility? The answer may surprise you, there is a lot that you can do. Using proper birth control from the first time you ever have sex can be the best thing you do. Preventing STDs in the first place can go a long way to ensuring your reproductive health (this goes for the guys as well!). If an STD is transmitted, treating it immediately is the next best thing. Allowing the disease to continue without treatment can lead to permanent infertility in both men and women.
