It's been awhile, right? Have we all been feeling some sort of emptiness in R&B/Soul Music? Have we all had a feeling that something was amiss...maybe even lacking in Soul Music today?
A few years ago we all found ourselves asking a single question about a young Philadelphian Songstress: "Who is Jill Scott?" Well, today she needs no introduction. She is back with a new album entitled "Beautifully Human:Words and Sounds Vol.2". Her new single "Golden" is blazing the charts. Fans are more than satisfied it seems and Jill is too. When asked about her hiatus and what she did in the meantime Jill explains in very plain terms. She says that for a while she was just not moved to write anything. But, that is not to say she just sat around watching the days float by. She founded a Non-Profit Organization called the Blues Babe Foundation. It is targeted at helping fund education for students in the Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey areas. She also got MARRIED and got a cat. So Ms. Jill Scott is now Mrs. Jill Scott and "Beautifully Human" is testamentnt to who she is. This poetic sistah girl from around the way connects with us through being human. Even though she is a superstar the beauty about Mrs. Jill Scott is she glorifies what makes us all beautiful. The things that link us together, those very attributes and characteristics that make us the same. This is what her music is all about. It's what keeps us clamoring for more. We feel a connectedness with the stories behind the lyrics because we have all been there once or twice. So unsurprisingly, her latest single "Golden" is a huge success. "Golden" has been in heavy rotation in Urban Adult Contemporary Stations across the nation. The danceability of the track carries the crowd out to the dance floor in a wave of emotion. The lyrics to the upbeat jam perpetuate the feel good jam. Yeah, it just feels good and Jill shows her mastery of vocals in thick heavy bursts of energy.
