Gordon dominates Michigan

Strange events, one more win, and the Kmart 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Strange Events........

This particular tidbit fits under the "Strange But True" heading. If, anyone can decipher any truth out of it. I do find it somewhat strange though, that NASCAR would send the Daytona Beach police to North Carolina to inspect Dale Earnhardt's wrecked racecar. Why now? Why not last February?

I found this story on the Orlando Sentinel web site. In some ways, it's kind of disturbing. Everyone quoted in the story seems to convey that there is no link between the hearing Monday in Volusia County over the autopsy photos and the release of the broken seatbelt pictures and belated police investigation. Are the Daytona Beach police pawns of NASCAR? It certainly appears that way.

I also found it quite disturbing that he police detective who examined the broken belt with a magnifying glass stated that the torn ends of the nylon fiber were balled up as if they had been melted. He stated that there were no abrasions apparent on the belt near the break. There's a link to the story in the Orlando Sentinel at the bottom of this page. Check it out for yourselves, and view the picture of the broken seat belt.

In another Sentinel story that I was pointed to by Jayski.com, Dr. Steve Bohannon claims NASCAR paid him time lost from work to travel to North Carolina to examine the wrecked No. 3 racecar 4 days after the Daytona 500. He claims that they showed him "very stretched and stressed" safety belts. The next day NASCAR released the statement that the belt was broken. Strange? Yes, but at this point, who has any idea of what the truth really is? The best way to hide something is to set up a smoke screen of conflicting stories.

One More Win.........

NASCAR legend Junior Johnson holds the record for Winston Cup team owner wins at 135, which were garnered over a 22-year period. Hendrick Motorsports is knocking at the door with 99 wins over a 17-year period. Hendrick has really risen to prominence by scoring 61 of those wins during the last five years. Of course, 54 of those can be attributed to the phenomenal success of Jeff Gordon. One more win, and the storied racing organization will break into the three digits, with the magic 100th checkered flag. Richard Childress Racing is next in line with 70 wins, most of which were checkered flags taken by the late Dale Earnhardt.
