Oldtimers.......

The No. 90 Ford Taurus is back on the track, Dave Marcus has broken doors, Bobby Allison the pilot, NASCAR's new look, and DW's last hurrah.

Dream On............ Junie Donlavey

When I read the story at NASCAR Online about Junie Donlavey's new hopes for the 2000 season, I was kind of saddened by the fact that some of the old timers will spend their last dime to stay in the Winston Cup picture. Junie has a deal with Hills Bros to sponsor the No. 90 Taurus for Daytona and Rockingham. After that, there are no guarantees. But, that doesn't daunt Junie, he say's he'll run the season without a sponsor, if need be.

There's no guarantee Junie's driver will even qualify for the two races. Ed Berrier has had quite a few tries at Winston Cup, and his qualifying record isn't one you'd want to send home to mother. This puts Berrier in the star studded rookie class for 2000. He does have more experience than most of the others in the class, a fact that's bolstering Junie's hopes of garnering another rookie of the year driver to add to the other three (Bill Dennis, Jody Ridley, and Ken Schrader) he's had in his 25+ years as a team owner. The dream bug has also bitten Berrier. He has hopes of upsetting the chances of the likes of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Matt Kenseth, and Dave Blaney, just to name a few of the class.

I can't really write Junie and Ed Berrier off, anything's possible, but a lot of things aren't probable, and I think this may be one of the improbabilities. I haven't been able to find out if Junie will be running one of the new Taurus's, or will be entering last years model. I kind of doubt Junie has had the capital to invest in a shop full of new racecars, without solid sponsorship behind him. He will be running Penske engines, I don't know if that's a plus or not. I'd rather run a Yates engine, but I guess he has to deal with whom ever he can to get by, and after all, Yates can build just so many engines. Good luck Junie!

Another Old Timer....... Has Bad Luck

While we're on the subject of old timers, Dave Marcus was robbed. Thieves broke into his motor home near his race shop in Arden, NC and made off with last years Realtree team shirts, an air rifle, Coleman lantern, and other miscellaneous belongings. According to the item in the Winston Cup Scene, he was more upset that they broke the doors, than he was about being robbed.
