Using those nine for a comparison, it's easy to see that the majority of drivers score most of their victories before reaching the age of forty, with the exception of maybe Dale Jarrett , and of course, Mark Martin (30 wins), who will turn 41 this season. This is true in most sports, you have your prime time, and your not so prime time. One factor that makes racing somewhat different, is the physical demand on the body. It certainly isn't easy sitting in a race car driving 180 MPH for five hours, but on the other hand, the race driver isn't running back and forth on a basketball court, or isn't rushing for a touchdown. This allows drivers to stay in the sport longer than others in professional sports, as long as they stay healthy. The physical demand isn't that great, but the mental demand stays the same with a race driver, or maybe even gets more demanding with the bigger faster tracks that are being built. Drivers also notice that their reflexes suffer with age. They aren't any different than any of the rest of us. Age, regardless of who you are or what you do, takes it's toll.
