The Egyptian Museum stands across from the grand gated entrance to the Schloss, and compared to the grand palace facade, it looked like a smallish house turned museum depository. The building that is now the Egyptian Museum began as one of two pavilions that served as officers' barracks for the King's Garde du Corps in the mid-nineteenth century. The partner pavilion located across the street is the Sammlung Berggruen, home to a large collection of nineteenth and early twentieth century art, including Picasso, Klee, Cezanne, Van Gogh, and Braque.

Once we paid our admission fee and entered the museum proper, we instantly came across the museum's most renowned artifact, the bust of Nefertiti. Located to the right upon entry, the bust sits in a case that allows the viewer 360 degree look at the elegantly carved piece. Luckily, the room was not crowded, and we had the opportunity to really examine the bust. The exhibition following the bust chronicles the finding and excavation of the bust in 1912.

Given the late hour, we could not catch a tour of the Charlottenburg palace, but I will make it a priority on my next visit to Berlin.

And as for the Buffy audience, it could best be described as an experience unlike any other. We met people from the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and England. One woman risked keeping her job in order to fly in from Paris for the weekend. I guess a five hour drive from home isn't so crazy after all.
