Update: Pat Benatar

Feb 15, 2002 - © Michele Morabito

Wanderings CD
The last write up on Pat Benatar was in November 1997 with an article entitled "Innamorating with Pat Benatar" as she was about to release her record, Innamorata.

Currently, her latest work is Summer Vacation DVD and Live CD is expected on March 12, 2002 off of Gold Circle Records. Since then, Pat released 1999's Synchronistic Wanderings, a complete 3 CD set on all her hits in her recording career as well as the hard to find tracks and an early demo of Roy Orbison's Crying.

Her old label, Chrysalis, released it. Pat was also in EMI's releases of Best of - Volume 1 and 2 and Women In Rock, both released in March 2001. Right now, the couple are working on a new album titled Girl. A potential release date may be in June or July.

A question that which record company will release it. Her last label was CMC International. It looks like Gold Circle might be the one as it is where Summer Vacation is being released. Personally, Pat and her husband, Neil Giraldo, were proudly watching their teenage daughter Haley become Miss Golden Globe of 2002.

According to her fan club, there is also a few upcoming TV appearances on Lifetime as part of their Intimate Portrait series. It should air in the summer. There may also be a segment on the new channel, Women's Entertainment (WE) titled Rockin' Moms about famous rock stars and their daughters.

VH1 may also be re-airing their Behind the Music episode about Pat and her rise to fame. MTV will rebroadcast Testimony: 20 Years of Rock; Pat will be part of the commentaries as well as checking into the show of VH1's 100 Greatest Videos.

Christmas in America was a CD single released to raise money for the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund for the victims of September 11th terrorist attacks. Interesting factoid is that Pat wrote the song after making a decision to perform their concert on September 11th.

Pat participated in 2nd Annual Women in Rock - Girls & Guitars concert last October. The concert also featured Dixie Chicks, Mary J. Blige and Nelly Furtado. It was aired on Lifetime television benefiting the breast cancer charities. She is currently not on tour but she has been on tour quite ruthlessly ever since.
