Arcanum was involved an indie film entitled "Obession" (was called "The Novel" ) with Brett in a small part as one of the bad guys. The producers saw "The Visual Scream" video compilation and cast him for the part. The remix of "I Love the People That Hurt Me" will be used in the film as well. They are also doing the theme song to a spoof of Mission Impossible/James Bond-type films - it is called "La Mission De L'Impossible". Hopefully, it get into two festivals and more in the future. Another special film called Standing on Contradictions (in conjunction with the Warehouse Actors Theater in Atlanta, W.H.A.T.) was written by Brett last spring and recites a story about four old friends who are growing apart. The band also submitted a song for the Jonatha Brooke Tribute cd that is under works. They have recorded "Is This All?", and hopefully that will appear on that cd too. On the homefront, the guys having a new EP called Dragging Canvasses and Breathing Lies. The sound is a combination of acoustic guitars, slowed down jungle beats, strings and pianos. Another Canvas Dragged is the video compliment to the EP. Arcanum also has a new CD, No Mercy for Virgin Soil, however, it does not have a distributor and available through Arcanum themselves. 1999 started with a bang as Arcanum was named as the Indie Journal's World Wide Musical Artist of the Month for January. Brett's solo project Subculture is also in the works. He has also been doing lots of outside production work including tracks for folk singer Johnette, a track for the rapper Majestic and hired to do the score for another indie film. Shaz will once again be making the rounds in New York City and Los Angeles working on getting his poetry and essays published. In the summer of 1999, the band even found out they were being bootlegged in Russia - sort of a backhanded compliment. Check them out for yourselves.
