Mayfield: ex-Tears For Fears Has A New Band and Outlook© Michele Morabito
Curt Smith, the brunette pony-tailed bass player/vocals for Tears For Fears has a new band called Mayfield and is now a buzz-cut platinum blond guy out on his own. Remember with fondess "Shout" and "Everybody Rules the World" singles from Songs from the Big Chair? Who wasn't singing those songs? or watching the videos? But alas, let's fast forward.
In very condensed form, Curt left Tears For Fears in 1990 after the "Seeds of Love" CD and tour. Curt cites that there were internal differences and he had to leave for peace of mind. In 1997, he is now relaxed, stable, newlywed again and has his own record label. After nearly six years of not performing, Curt, with Mayfield, the new band he put together in late 1995, has their CD out through Internet distribution only at their label, Zerodisc or Music Blvd. You can also download the singles as well. They seem to be on the brink of touring, although no dates are set. Don't expect a TicketMaster deal though; most of their shows are informal — more like a friendly gathering than a gig. Lyrics seem to be incredibly important, so if you out there are lyric hysterical, this might be the CD for you. It also a little bit of a political sway as well. What happened to Curt between 1990 and 1995 you ask? He worked as a VJ on MTV subbing for John Norris and a college radio show interviewing the up-and-coming bands. Mayfield is comprised of Curt Smith and a great roster of big name session players: Charlton Pettus, co-writer and producer of Marry Me Jane; Russ Irwin, tours with his buds Aerosmith; Shawn Pelton, drummer for Saturday Night Live; and Doug Petty. All these guys are all interconnected as well through various other musical interludes. There's also a few more people who played on it, most notably Steve Ferrone on "Snow Hill" track, who has worked with Duran Duran in the past. To keep up with Mayfield and their forthcoming fan convention, the best place is to visit the fan sites; an excellent one is the Mayfield Page. Go To Page: 1
